Jakarta Govt Urged to Bolster Preemptive Measures Against Superflu

Jakarta City Council Commission E Secretary, Justin Adrian has urged the Jakarta administration to bolster its preparedness against the 'superflu' virus currently spreading internationally.

We can ensure our mitigation efforts

He argued that preemptive measures are essential, including strengthening surveillance and early detection at healthcare facilities, ensuring the readiness of hospitals and community health centers, and enhancing cross-sector coordination.

"In addition, continuous public awareness campaigns are essential to curb panic and maintain high vigilance. By so, we can ensure our mitigation efforts are both timely and effective," he expressed, Tuesday (1/6).

He warned against any form of complacency regarding the superflu strain. He argued the challenges faced during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic must be viewed as a vital cautionary tale for everyone in the city.

Adrian pointed to 2020 as a cautionary tale, noting that Jakarta’s delayed response caused it to emerge as the epicenter for COVID-19. At its peak, the capital comprised roughly one-third of all daily national infections.

Given this history, he warned against any complacency regarding the superflu strain.

His comments follow a recent warning from Vice Governor Rano Karno, who issued a call for heightened public vigilance and directed aviation officials to bolster surveillance of travelers arriving from abroad.
